Hemoximetry

Hemoximetry measures the hemoglobin, carbon monoxide, oxy hemoglobin saturation with oxygen and met hemoglobin in arterial or venous blood.

Instructions to Patient
If you are using oxygen and your Physician orders a room air ABG, you will have to wait approximately 20 minutes after the removal of your oxygen to have the procedure done.

Additional Information
A Registered or Certified Therapist will perform the test.  Arterial Blood Gases (ABG's) have a reputation of being potentially painful, however when performed by experience personnel, the discomfort is usually minimal and short lived.  The ABG Lab at Baptist Regional Medical Center is JCAHO Accredited.
