Mental Health

  • American Psychiatric Association Online
    mentalContains an extensive public information section on mental health issues such as anxiety disorders, depression, schizophrenia, teen suicide and more.
  • Anxiety Disorders Association of America
    The Anxiety Disorders Association of America was established to educate patients, families, mental health professionals, primary care physicians and the general public about the nature and management of anxiety disorders. The Table of Contents section of this site includes links to information and self-tests for a variety of anxiety disorders in adults and children.
  • National Institute of Mental Health
    Offers information on specific mental disorders, diagnosis and treatment, including anxiety and panic disorders, depression, attention deficit disorder, eating disorders, learning disabilities, medications and schizophrenia. Articles are accompanied by a list of resources available for additional help and information.
  • National Mental Health Association
    The National Mental Health Association is dedicated to improving the mental health of all individuals and achieving victory over mental illness. The Information section of their site includes Fact Sheets-Free Information on the following: mental illness in the family, including warning signs; mental health statistics and guidelines for seeking help; depression, including separate fact sheets about depression in women, teens and later life; anxiety disorders of all types; schizophrenia; medications and treatment, including electroconvulsive therapy; children's mental health issues; and suicide.
  • National Mental Health Services Knowledge Exchange Network
    Includes information on dealing with the stigma of mental illness, as well as links to other mental health resources on the Internet.
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
    This web site, provided by the United Kingdom National Workplace Bullying Advice Line offers detailed information about PTSD including causes and symptoms, and Prolonged Duress Stress Disorder (PDSD) in relationship to bullying and harassment in the workplace.

Neurological Problems

    The neurological conditions portion of this site includes fact sheets and brochures on ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer's Disease, anencephaly, Bell's Palsy, boxing, brain tumors, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic pain, epilepsy, tremor, headache, head injuries, lumbar puncture, neuroaids, neuroimaging, Parkinson's Disease, stroke, transient ischemic attack, Tourette's syndrome and essential tremor. Also included on the site is a Patient Information Guide for Neurology that includes information on how to locate patient-oriented materials and services for individuals with neurologic disorders. Now in its sixth edition, the Patient Information Guide is the most complete and comprehensive publication of its kind.

    NINDS is a lead agency for the Congressionally designated Decade of the Brain, and the leading supporter of biomedical research on disorders of the brain and nervous system.
