Corbin Elementary Hosts Career Fair

Corbin Elementary School hosted a career fair for students on February 19th.

The students were able to visit a variety of vendors set up in the gym during the school day. Each vendor provided information on their career choice to the students. The vendors included, The University of the Cumberlands, Union College, Eastern Kentucky University, Corbin Fire Department, Corbin Police Department, Corbin JROTC, Creations Cosmetology School, 21st Century Real Estate, Baptist Family Fitness, Hill Law Firm, Corbin Massage Therapy, Baptist Health, Hometown Bank, Big Sandy (Dental Assistant and Dental Hygiene Students), and Gibson Dentistry. The vendors also provided small token gifts or candy for the students.

“We wanted to host a Career Fair to expose our students to different careers that are out there and give them some information about them,” Corbin Elementary Principal Chris Webb said. “We wanted our students to understand the hard work and training that goes into the careers that people choose to make a living.”

The students were able to dress up for the career fair. They dressed as what they wanted to be when they grow up.

The elementary school started studying careers earlier this year. The school has been hosting VIP Fridays (very important people). On Friday of each week a guest speaker from the community visits the students to provide information about their career. These events tie into the Practical Living/Career Studies Program Review. Some classes have also researched the career of their choice and presented the information to the class.
