BRMC Announces CEO & President

Larry W. Gray has been named president & CEO of Baptist    Regional Medical Center in Corbin. Gray was most recently vice president for system support and administrative services at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Gray joined Baptist Healthcare System (BHS) in 1983 as a clinical chaplain, assumed the role of director of pastoral care in 1986 and took on executive duties at Central Baptist in 1993. Gray was instrumental in creating the leadership development program at Central Baptist, which has been published as a best practice by several health care-related groups. He developed the hospital ethics committee and chaired it for 16 years.

Baptist Healthcare System owns and operates Baptist Regional Medical Center and Central Baptist Hospital as well as Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah and Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange. BHS also manages Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown and Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center in Richmond.

In his new role, Gray will work closely with William G. Sisson, president and CEO of Central Baptist Hospital, to further the regional strategy of BHS.

“Baptist Healthcare System wants to develop opportunities for sharing of services and programs for this region of the state to secure even greater availability of health care excellence for area residents,” said Tommy J. Smith, president and CEO of Baptist Healthcare System. “We want to bring the quality and values that people have come to expect from BHS to an expanded array of services.”

Baptist Regional Medical Center, a 273-bed facility, currently serves residents of Whitley, Knox, Laurel, Bell, Jackson, Clay, McCreary and Harlan counties in Kentucky, and Jellico, Tennessee.

“Baptist Regional Medical Center is already a great facility, and we’re looking forward to its future growth and expansion of services such as cardiology, oncology, women’s services and neurosciences,” said Sisson. “As we develop new services and enhance existing ones, we look forward to partnering with the many excellent physicians in the Corbin service area.”

Sisson believes that Gray’s experience and history within the Baptist Healthcare System will provide for leadership continuity at Baptist Regional Medical Center.

Gray has a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from the University of Kentucky, a Master of Divinity Degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from UK. He has served as adjunct faculty in the MHA program at UK since 2002, has served on the board of the School-Based Health Coalition in Lexington and is active in several community efforts. He and his wife, Mary Ida, will be relocating to the Corbin area.
