Baptist Health Corbin has a Licensed Massage Therapist trained in Pregnancy, Labor, and Postnatal Massage, Certified Clinical Aromatherapy Student and a Certified Baby Massage Instructor. Our massage therapy suite is located between the Labor/Delivery and Women and Children Services on the second floor. Available Monday through Friday 10am to 5pm --but if the child arrives on any other day, mom will receive a voucher so she can make an appointment for her massage at an alternate time.
Massage can work in the mother's favor by slowing down the production of stress hormones to relax her body and finally allow labor to begin. In addition to the relaxation effect, another way massage can help to stimulate contractions is when pressure points are stimulated known as Acupressure. Labor massage can be beneficial for natural births or those using an epidural as pain management!
In the postpartum period, the new mother suffers from fatigue, soreness from overused birthing muscles, hormonal changes, and is in need of attention and pampering. The day after delivery, moms are pampered in our private massage suite, allowing you to enjoy a quite and relaxing escape of a half an hour massage. Each session is customized to each patient’s needs. Your session can include Aromatherapy, using only Therapeutic Grade Essential oils and Bamboo-Fusion, wooden bamboo reeds are heated to 160 degrees and the therapist uses them as a massage tool to help soften tight muscles. Bamboo-Fusion is similar to “Hot Stone” massage but more applicable in a clinical setting.
All parents will receive a “Baby’s First Massage” booklet. This is a guide to teaching you step by step massage techniques to help soothe baby from colic, gassiness, constipation, bonding with siblings and family members. Kelly Burton, LMT is a certified Baby Massage Instructor. If you would like individual class please contact the massage therapist or your nurse to schedule a time.
