Emergency Department
Baptist Regional Medical Center's Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to care for patients of all ages with all types of medical problems, from minor illnesses and injuries to life-threatening emergencies.
Staffed by physicians and registered nurses, the Emergency Department is equipped with 17 beds and a decontamination area for treating patients who have been exposed to hazardous materials. A helipad is available for transporting critically injured patients to Level I trauma center facilities in Lexington and Knoxville. Physician specialists in family practice, surgery, orthopaedics, cardiology, pediatrics, obstetrics, gastroenterology, chemical dependency, and adult and adolescent psychiatry provide on-call coverage 24 hours a day as needed.
Patients who enter the Emergency Department are immediately assessed by a triage nurse to determine what level of care is needed for the illness or injury and to prioritize patients according to the seriousness of their conditions. Triage nurses are specially trained to separate minor needs from major emergencies. Patients who are critically ill receive immediate attention.
Health Express was opened after hours in the outpatient clinic located on the ground floor of the Medical Office Building to reduce wait time for minor injuries. Health Express is an extension of the Emergency Department. Emergency Room co-pays and charges still apply. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 5:00 p.m. to midnight and Saturday through Sunday from noon to midnight with a physician on duty. Click on Health Express for frequent diagnosis that would be seen in the Health Express.
