Fighting Cancer Has No Limits

The new cancer care location in the hospital was designed with an open floor plan allowing patients from most rooms to observe the beautiful hill side looking from the picturesque windows that are floor to ceiling in size. Therapies are conducted in this area to aide in healing, allowing patients to sit in plush recliners in the open environment. Group or private infusion rooms are available.  A complimentary meal will be provided during your therapy.  Often times you may find an artist painting, students playing musical instrumentals or visitors with four legs.

At Baptist, we care for the patient emotionally, physically and spiritually providing one to one care for each patient. The first of many support group meetings was held in February, as a resource to help patients and family members. In addition, patients have the opportunity to participate in a program called “Healing Touch” provided by a licensed massage therapist.  A complimentary three month family membership to Baptist Health Family Fitness is also available. Recently, free valet parking was added to provide convenience to the patient and family.

The Baptist Health Cancer Care is made up of a diverse team of medical professionals to help in numerous areas when battling cancer. During difficult times, facing cancer can seem hopeless, but Baptist has caring staff to help you through life’s challenges.  Our dedicated cancer team is committed to helping you with every aspect of your care. Our goal is to take care of the patient through the process of diagnosis to treatment to healing. Our team is made up of pharmacists with expertise in oncology, dedicated social workers, financial counselors, oncologists, registered nurses, nutritionist, licensed massage therapist, and a nurse navigator. The nurse navigator plays a vital role in communicating and being a point of contact for the patient during their time at Baptist. The nurse navigator is a clinical resource for patients and works as a patient educator, care coordinator, system navigator and patient advocate with the mission to improve the care experience and continuum of care. The nurse navigator works collaboratively with the patient, their support team, physicians and other healthcare professionals.

How do we OVERPOWER CANCER? By working nonstop to prevent it, detect it, fight it and prevent it from coming back.

Here’s what we mean.

With new technology, we are able to catch cancer earlier, in beginning stages when it is easier to treat. Here, patients have access to new and advanced diagnostic and screening capabilities — technologies like diagnostic radiology, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, PET scans, vascular studies, CT scans and MRI. We’re also the breast care experts. We have a broad range of breast cancer diagnostic tools, with all-digital 3-dimensional mammograms, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast MRI located in a dedicated Breast Care center. And, because we know how stressful it is to wait, our diagnostic patients get same-day results.

What would you do if you knew your risk? For one thing, you’d take every precaution possible to prevent and defend against cancer. We have access to genetic counselors that can perform genetic testing and, together with your family history and cancer risk assessment, will chart your course for screening and management options. A physician referral from your primary doctor is required.

Our extraordinary board-certified physicians lead the fight in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care and, together with a remarkable team of oncology nurses, dietitians, clinical pharmacists, social workers, nurse navigator and others, will devise a personal treatment plan for you.

Lung Cancer Screening at Baptist Health Corbin is designed to monitor patients at high risk for developing lung cancer and to promote early detection and treatment of lung cancer.  Because Kentucky has the highest lung cancer rates in the nation, our goal is to improve the survival rates in Eastern and Central Kentucky.

Our restful outpatient cancer center offers physician consultation, disease staging, treatment planning and administration of chemotherapy and other targeted cancer therapies, all under the careful guidance of a committed group of oncology trained nurses. Our philosophy is simple: any time we can make treatment faster, easier, or more comfortable — we do it.

The journey to a new normal is not an easy one. Resources help patients get to their best physical, spiritual and mental capacity possible. After treatment, our cancer patients are still our patients and have become our friends.
